If the damage is limited to one area (a few missing shingles, a single leak, a flashing problem), a repair usually makes sense. If the roof is near the end of its life, has leaks in several places, curling or bald shingles, or soft spots in the deck, replacement is often the better investment. We'll inspect it and tell you honestly which option fits.

It depends on the size and pitch of the roof, how many old layers have to come off, the condition of the deck and the materials you choose. That's why we give every customer a free on-site estimate with a clear written price before any work begins.

Most single-family homes take one to a few days, depending on the size of the roof, its complexity and the weather. We'll give you a time frame with your estimate.

In some cases a second layer is allowed, but we usually recommend a full tear-off. Removing the old shingles lets us inspect and repair the deck, install ice and water shield properly, and gives you a roof that lasts longer.

Once a year is a good rule, plus after any major storm. In New England, a check in the fall before snow season helps catch loose shingles and flashing problems before they turn into leaks.

An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of the roof when snow melts higher up and refreezes at the colder eaves. Water then backs up under the shingles and can leak into ceilings and walls. Removing the snow and ice, and improving ventilation, helps prevent it.

After heavy storms, when snow builds up deep or wet and heavy, or as soon as you see icicles and ice dams forming along the gutters. Don't wait for a leak, and don't get on the roof yourself. Call us and we'll clear it safely.
